Even with the gambeson and a mail shirt, a fighter was not as well protected as a warrior with plate armor. However, plate armor was expensive. The brigandine filled this gap very well. This suede leather garment has small steel plates riveted between the outer shell and the lining. This con-struction made it easy enough for a soldier to make and repair his own armor without needing to pay a skilled armorer. Weighing only 6 lbs., it is very flexible and does not restrict movement. Commonly worn

You can wear this all day and not feel weighed down. this is awesome. -- Daniel S.
I am happy with mine for the most part. Note that this is very light duty "armor" and makes a nice costume piece but should not be considered as functional armor and likewise should not be used in any combat situation . . . I dont regret buying mine but I do think people should know what they are buying. This should be concidered costume armor or good for LARP/soft combat. -- David C.
Great piece for renaissance fairs. The weight is heavy enough to feel protected but light enough to wear for a long time. --Brad D
Over a gambeson and mail shirt, it was not long before this form of protection was in wide use with fighters from knights to archers. Our version has three buckles on each side for adjusting the fit. Approx. 32" long. Choose black or brown leather shell. Size S/M (fits chest size up to 38") and L/XL (fits chest up to 48").
