This elegant shirt, named for a Welsh pirate captain of the 16th century, has a lace jabot at the throat, lace cuffs on the long, full sleeves and it buttons down the front. It makes a fine companion piece to pair with almost any of our vests and doublets, such as the Pirate Vest, Capt. LeSage Vest or Lace-up Vest. Made of thick, silky rayon viscose fabric, this shirt is available in sizes to XXX-Large plus X-Tall (add $3 for XXXL and X-Tall).
HISTORY: Captain John Calles was a Welsh pirate of the 16th century. Active in the south of Wales, he often sold his ill-gotten cargos in the villages of Laugharne and Carew. He continued raiding for decades, until complaints and pressure from other countries whose ships he raided forced the English to track him down, finally capturing him in 1576.
An old man by this time, Calles attempted to make a trade with the English authorities to help track down other pirates in exchange for his release. His offer was refused, however, and he was hanged at Newport late in 1576.
