HISTORY: These pants are named for the pirate alter ego of the Reverend Doctor Christopher Syn, the smuggler/ pirate hero of a series of early 20th Century novels by Russell Thorndike.  Tale of the Romney Marsh, the first of the novels published in 1915, was based on the 18th Century history of smugglers who landed brandy and tobacco from France on remote stretches of the English coastline to avoid high taxes levied by the English crown.
